Responsibilities:
This volunteer´s primary focus is the care of the animals, which includes daily feeding and cleaning of cages and the occasional bath. While previous experience with animals is not necessary, a genuine interest in the well being of animals, both physical and psychological is required and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations is necessary. The very lives of the animals depend on their caretaker, who must be able to learn quickly the varied needs of our diverse population of animals and be able to recognize signs of illness or distress.

As the majority of the cages are made from re-used materials, they often need attention and occasional repairs; something as simple as a loose wire could mean the loss of an animal. The volunteer’s secondary focus is to assist providing tours of the zoo.

The volunteer must be comfortable with children, able to communicate with the public and be able to impart the pedagogical goals of Divertigranja.
